About Las Vegas
The city of Las Vegas is one of the liveliest and most exciting places in the world, especially to those who enjoy gambling. First time visitors to “The City That Never Sleeps” as well as those who come back to Vegas as often as their schedules allow will tell you that this is actually a location that wakes up after the sun goes down!
Getting around in Las Vegas can be easy with a little planning. If you are arriving at McCarran International Airport, you will have several options for getting to the Strip or to Downtown Las Vegas. Choose from airport/ limousine shuttle services, RTC buses, taxicabs, or perhaps you will be renting a car. Unless you are planning on a side trip to the Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon or Lake Mead, a rental car really is not necessary.
McCarran Airport is located at 5757 Wayne Newton Blvd about a mile from the strip, so your fare can vary depending on which transportation selection you choose. Once you arrive on the Strip, there is a Monorail, free shuttles, and trolley buses.
The RTC (also called Deuce) buses are the most inexpensive way to travel up and down the Strip. The Deuce runs 24 hours a day, and you can find bus stops about every quarter of a mile. If Fremont Street is your destination, catching a bus or a taxicab to the downtown area from the Strip are your best options.
Of course, you will want to try your luck on the beautiful and famous Strip, but Downtown Las Vegas as well as other areas of the city have hotel casinos along with other places where gambling takes place.
Many people choose the downtown area to do their serious gambling instead of the Strip. The games are both smaller and cheaper, and the casinos are not as apt to be as crowded during the busiest times. Everything downtown is within walking distance, so once you arrive in the area, you can easily travel by foot.
If you are taking a break from gambling, there are many things to see and do that won’t break your budget if by chance you are not having much luck at the tables. Check out the free Fountain Show in front of the Bellagio Hotel, then head across the street to the Paris Hotel to experience the great views from the Eiffel Tower observation deck. Both inside and outside of the Venetian Hotel, you can enjoy a serenade while taking a gondola ride.
While at the Venetian, walk through the Grand Canal Shoppes until you get to St. Mark’s Square. Here you will see a group of street performers as well as a living statue. There is a wonderful auto collection at the Imperial Palace, and a Gallery of Fine Art at the Bellagio Hotel.
Circus Circus boasts an indoor roller coaster, while New York New York, the Sahara, and the Stratosphere Tower feature these amusement rides outdoor. Circus Circus also offers bungee jumping for those who are interested
