Barbary Coast
Once known as Barbary Coast, Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall and Saloon is one of the busiest casinos on the strip because of its location. A few doors down from Harrah’s (its parent holding company) and adjacent to the Flamingo and Bally’s, this tiny little casino still has a lot of old Vegas appeal, while also beginning to show its age. The gambling area is right up front and while it’s very small, it offers vacationers the chance to gamble in relative peace, while also getting an eyeful of the passersby.
If you take a moment to stop in while you stroll the strip, you will notice that there are frequent drink specials here, trying to entice people to come in. The most popular is the $1 margarita special, but realize that these are very small drinks for what you’re paying. But most people are happy to buy more than one as they are quite tasty and this is certainly a good deal in relation to the high prices of alcohol on the strip.
The hotel rooms themselves have recently been updated, so they’re brighter and lighter ñ a step up from the darker Victorian inspired rooms of the early 2000s. Take note that the rooms aren’t very big, but for someone who wants to find a cheap room for themselves and for their family, this is certainly the best choice in the area. Of course, the busy crowds outside don’t really make for quiet nights of sleeping ñ try to get a room as far away from the strip as you can.
With only 200 rooms, Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall and Saloon is certainly small, but rates start at only $60 each night. There are two restaurants in the hotel and gambling limits are lower, so you can try out your hand at high stakes games more easily ñ and without losing your shirt right from the start.
