Sahara
Since its opening in 1952, the Sahara Hotel and Casino has become one of the fixtures in the sands of the desert. True to its name, walking into the Sahara is like finding yourself in Morocco or Egypt with its open layout, marble, and glitzy chandeliers. But a future renovation is slated for this year, so the look might change once again.
The sign that once announced the presence of the Sahara is long gone, and in its place is a more subtle sign. This has certainly made Sahara look like it’s been forgotten to the sands of time, but what this hotel and casino have to offer has not. The gaming area of the Sahara is filled with an Arabian nights theme, which is fine and bordering on cheesy, but still entertaining as you sit and feed money into the slots.
The rooms at the Sahara aren’t very exciting right now, but that’s because of the upcoming renovations. Once those are completed, the rooms are certain to be decorated a bit more and to look a bit more elegant. The size is okay right now, but that’s also expected to change in the future. One thing to keep in mind is that the Sahara (like so many other Vegas hotels) is not really all that accommodating to children, so if you can leave yours at home, that might be the best idea.
You can see a variety of shows at the Sahara showroom or head to the Sahara Buffet for good food at reasonable prices. And while children aren’t encouraged, apparently big children are. There’s a huge roller coaster outside that you can ride ñ and it’s said to be quite thrilling.
Room rates start at only $45, but be sure to call ahead to make sure that the Sahara isn’t closed for renovations yet.
