Stratosphere
Though it’s the tallest building West of the Mississippi, the Stratosphere is a Las Vegas hotel you may never have heard of. Located far down the strip, this isn’t the easiest place to visit if you’re staying anywhere along the strip, and if you want to stay at the Stratosphere, you need to go quite a ways to get anywhere else ñ about five blocks to the Sahara, which is the closest casino. That said, there are a number of reasons to stay here.
First of all, the height of the Stratosphere is almost overwhelming – and if you’re brave, you can even go up into the towers to see all along the strip and the Las Vegas area. Or you can try out Big Shot, which is a ride that launches you into a freefall up and down the tower’s length. You might also want to try Insanity: The Ride, this tosses you around the tower about 900 feet above ground. Or there’s always X-Scream, which will make you feel as though you’re falling off the side of a building. Obviously, these aren’t for the faint of heart.
The rooms at Stratosphere are fine, though they’re nothing out of this world. If you’re looking for a place to stay where you simply have a bed and some room to lay your things, you’ve come to the right place. You might also want to join the player’s club at Stratosphere because they’re known for ‘comping’ out free rooms.
Entertainment at Stratosphere includes American Superstars (impressionists) and BITE. You can also try the arcade games, the casino, or eat at one of 9 restaurants, as well as many fast food options. This is a place where you might be able to take your family quite easily, provided you don’t want to walk to the strip.
Room rates start at $39 for a double and $69 for a suite.
